New light on the energy transition.
Shell has created one of the Netherlands’ largest solar-energy parks at its Shell Moerdijk Chemicals Plant. A total of 76,000 solar panels (approximately 40 football fields) are now supplying sustainable energy across the entire site. By building this solar park Shell Moerdijk has taken an enormous step forward in the energy transition arena.
The celebrations to mark the opening also featured the unveiling at the plant of a unique, symbolic sundial and a Solar Safari in which the guests were given a full briefing on the solar park as they were driven around the Moerdijk site. The day concluded with an energy debate at the De Stad Klundert events centre, where local residents and politicians, stakeholders and members of Shell’s senior management exchanged their thoughts on climate change and our energy needs. A range of surprising views and ideas emerged during the discussion, providing new insights on the subject matter. A highly balanced and extremely well-received event.
