Shell Moerdijk marks its 50th anniversary

For one whole week in October 2018, Shell’s site at Moerdijk celebrated the 50th anniversary of Shell Moerdijk. The multinational seized this opportunity to allow local residents, stakeholders and its own personnel to share more deeply in this special company and its special mission. BrandBase came up with an innovative concept for the event, creating a festival onsite where a wide range of activities built around the theme of ‘24 hours at Shell’ brought the world of chemicals to life, providing all those who attended with surprising insights into operations at Shell Moerdijk and the products it makes.

Held on a gloriously sunny day, the Open Day at Shell Moerdijk offered a programme that was both inspirational and interactive. The event was a sell-out and offered each of the 1500 visitors the opportunity to take part in a range of chemistry-based workshops, including activities such as making hair gel and designing their own sneakers. The festival’s dome construction was even modelled on the ethylene molecule: the key component in all of Shell Moerdijk’s products.

In addition to the Open Day, BrandBase and Shell worked together to organise a Young Shell Event on the festival site to get Shell’s young talent involved in shaping a vision of sustainability. This was followed one day later by Stakeholders Day, where 100 leading partners shared their knowledge, skills and ideas, with environmental sustainability at Shell Moerdijk as their main focus.
